William Mather Smith account books, 1812-1870.

Four account books kept by William Mather Smith, a farmer in Sharon, Connecticut. Smith was the son of Connecticut Governor John Cotton Smith and the grandson of Rev. Cotton Mather Smith. Smith used the volumes to keep track of his expenditures, as well as noting travel of his family members. The first two volumes date between 1812 and 1829. The latter two volumes date between 1848 and 1870. William Smith's son, also John Cotton Smith, took over the last volume following Smith's death.
